Background:

Sam (he/him) earned a Bachelor’s degree at the University of California at Santa Cruz where he gained a strong interest in sustainable food systems. From here, Sam began his career in nutrition as a vegetable and pig farmer in Pennsylvania.  Farming for five years has made Sam a strong advocate for local food systems as a way to promote the health of people and the planet.  Digging deeper into the science of food, Sam moved to New York City to obtain a Master of Science in Nutrition from Hunter College. While a graduate student Sam led cooking classes in an after school program, and at farmers markets.  Sam now has three years of experience providing medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling to a wide range of patients.  In addition to his nutrition experience  Sam is a Mindfulness Instructor and loves infusing awareness-based activities into his work.

Counseling Philosophy:

Sam believe counseling is best seen as a process versus seeking a specific outcome.  He believes that small behavior changes can have a big impact.  With the heavy influence of social media and entertainment on our standards of beauty, Sam focuses on connecting clients to their own definition of health and well-being.

Affiliations:

Sam is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Sam has completed 200 hour Meditation Teacher Training and a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training.

Personal Interests:

Sam loves to eat with the seasons by hitting up the local farmers market and feasting with his friends and family.  He is an avid meditator and yoga practitioner, and rides his bike everywhere.
